Nootka Sound Resort is a floating lodge at Galiano Bay, one of three properties run by Nootka Marine Adventures on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It sells fixed three- and four-night packages rather than nightly rooms. Every package includes a private suite with an ensuite for two, a hot breakfast, boxed lunch, appetisers with beer and wine, a three-course dinner, a 24-hour snack bar, provincially regulated fish processing and daily housekeeping. Guided packages add two or three full days on the water with two anglers to a boat; bring-your-own-boat packages cost roughly half and include moorage. Rental boats from 18 to 24 feet are available for guests fishing unguided, and moorage for private boats runs $50 a night. The water inside the sound is sheltered enough to fish when the open coast is not, and the resort keeps kayaks and paddleboards for days when nobody wants to fish.

## From, per person

$2,325 CAD, double, two to a boat, Bring your own boat, 3 nights (3 nights on site), summer season 2026. Per person, Canadian dollars, taxes not included. Double is two anglers sharing a private suite and a boat, which is how the resort prices everything. Triple and Quad are three or four anglers sharing one boat, still in suites for two. ## Questions people ask

**How much does Nootka Sound Resort cost?**

On the 2026 package sheet a 3-night self-guided package is $2,749 per person, two to an 18-foot rental boat, or $2,499 with four aboard. Semi-guided (one day with a guide, one on your own, both on a 24-foot ABD) is $3,529. Fully guided, two full days on a 32-foot North River, is $4,409 per person two to a boat and $3,339 four to a boat. Four nights runs $3,749 to $6,229. Every figure is per person on double occupancy, before tax.

The group's Rates page, which is not dated, shows the guided packages at $5,500 and $6,300 and adds a bring-your-own-boat package at $2,325 for 3 nights and $3,100 for 4 with moorage included. It also lists a custom option at $750 per person per night as the base before activities are added. Confirm the figure for your dates when you enquire.

**What is the difference between self-guided, semi-guided and fully guided?**

The suite, the meals and the fish processing are the same. Self-guided puts you in an 18-foot Quay Craft centre console with downriggers, rods and tackle aboard and up to four people; you find the fish. Semi-guided gives you one full day with a guide on a 24-foot ABD and then the same boat on your own the next day, which is the way to learn the water. Fully guided is a certified guide on a 32-foot North River every day, 10 hours dock to dock, two or four anglers aboard. Upgrades from the 18-footer to a 22 or 24-foot ABD are subject to availability.

**What are the suites like?**

A private suite for two on the floats, with two twin beds, a queen or a king, and a private washroom. Every package is priced on double occupancy; a single-occupancy upgrade is available on request. Children aged 5 to 15 stay at half price. Check-in is at 3pm and check-out at 11am. The lodge has a pool table and a poker table, a board room for corporate groups, a gift shop and a snack bar open around the clock.

**What does a guided day look like?**

Full-day trips are 10 hours dock to dock and leave at daylight. The boats are 31 and 32-foot North Rivers with two 250 or 300 hp outboards, an onboard washroom and, on the newest ten, Seakeeper gyro stabilisers, running two or three rods for one to six guests. Chinook and coho, halibut, lingcod and rockfish are the targets; the inside water off the resort fishes when the open coast does not. Lunch comes aboard, rain gear is provided at the floating resorts, and the Anglers Academy (boat safety, tides, jigging, trolling, species identification, with a certificate and a Helly Hansen vest after 24 hours of fishing) is free on any guided boat. Albacore tuna runs late August into September as a surcharge on a guided day when conditions allow.

**How do I get there?**

Drive to Moutcha Bay Resort: Highway 28 west from Campbell River for about 91 km to Gold River, then Head Bay Road towards Tahsis, a gravel stretch with grades of 15 and 18%. The resort sign is on the left about 6 km past the Conuma fish hatchery, roughly two hours from Campbell River. Guests of the floating resorts park at Moutcha Bay; on a guided package the resort brings you to Nootka Sound Resort by guide boat, and on a rental-boat package you drive the rental over yourself, a 15 to 20 minute run. The group also offers an executive transport from the Campbell River, Comox or Nanaimo airports to Moutcha Bay with the boat transfer onward.

Or come straight to the dock: Air Nootka flies from Gold River, Seair from Vancouver and Northwest Seaplanes from Seattle; the package sheet offers a Vancouver or Seattle round trip as an add-on on Fridays and Mondays between 27 July and 7 August 2026, priced on request. Boats of 24 feet and over can launch at Gold River; the dock team is on VHF channel 6 and the resort sits at 49° 42.391 N, 126° 28.25 W.

**Can I bring my own boat?**

Yes. Moorage is $50 a night for guests who arrive in their own boat, and the Rates page prices bring-your-own-boat packages with moorage included: $2,325 per person for 3 nights and $3,100 for 4, with the same suite, meals and fish processing. Fuel, bait and tackle are at the Moutcha Bay marina; the Gold River boat launch (1-778-909-0036) suits heavier boats. A foreign-registered boat in Canada more than 45 days has to meet Canadian equipment rules.

**What is the food and drink?**

A hot breakfast buffet, an artisan boxed lunch for the boat, fireside appetisers with select beer and wine when the boats come in, a three-course dinner with select beer and wine, and a snack bar open 24 hours. The chef uses produce from the group's own Seaview Farms near Black Creek. Allergies and dietary requirements are handled if you say so before you arrive. Anything beyond the included beer and wine goes on your room account.

**Do I need a fishing licence?**

Yes. Every angler needs a Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence with the salmon conservation stamp, carried on the water, and the resort asks you to buy it online from Fisheries and Oceans Canada before you arrive to avoid delays at the dock. The resort fishes Areas 25 and 125; check the regulations for the openings and limits in force.

**What about children and people who do not fish?**

Children aged 5 to 15 stay at half price; the guided boats take guests from age 5, with an adult for anyone under 18. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are among the amenities for the sheltered water of the sound (the Rates page prices them only for non-guests, from $35 for two hours). The Wildlife and Heritage Tour is a private 7-hour boat trip for up to six guests to Yuquot (Friendly Cove), the sea otters and whatever is spouting off Maquinna Point, at $2,000 per tour plus tax with lunch aboard. The resort is not suitable for pets.

**Is there wifi, cell signal or power?**

Complimentary wifi in the guest and meeting rooms, on a satellite link the resort itself calls spotty. No cell coverage at any of the three resorts; a phone at the front desk is free for guests. The resort does not publish anything about power in the suites.

**What should I pack?**

The resort's own list for a guided day is short: your fishing licence, warm layered clothing, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Rain gear is provided to guests of the floating resorts and all the tackle is aboard. Smoking is not allowed in rooms or public spaces, with a $250 cleaning charge if you do.

**Do I tip?**

Gratuities are not in the price. The resort's guidance is $70 to $100 per guest per day on the boat for the guide, and 20% of your stay for the shore staff, which can be added to your room charges and paid by card on departure.

**What happens to my catch?**

Every package includes provincially regulated fish processing: your catch is filleted, vacuum-packed, flash-frozen and boxed, ready to collect on your departure day. For smoking or canning, the group works with St. Jean's Cannery, which ships to your door.
