Newton Cove is the most remote of the three Nootka Marine Adventures properties, a floating resort tucked into Esperanza Inlet with the open Pacific a short run away. Packages are three or four nights on fixed arrival days, built around a private ensuite suite for two and a four-course dinner rather than the three-course service at the group's Nootka Sound property. Guided packages include 30 hours on the water, either two half days and two full days, or three full days, with two anglers to a boat, and every stay includes provincially regulated fish processing that fillets, vacuum-packs, flash-freezes and boxes your catch for the flight home. Bring-your-own-boat packages include moorage. Children aged five to fifteen stay at half price, and the resort takes corporate groups using the common areas for meetings.

## Questions people ask

**How much does Newton Cove Resort cost?**

On the 2026 sheet the 3-night fully guided package, Friday to Monday, is $6,079 per person with two anglers to a boat, or $4,489 per person with four sharing one boat. The 4-night package, Monday to Friday, is $7,029 and $5,439. Both give 30 hours of guided fishing. Prices are per person on double occupancy, before tax, and about 1% up on 2025.

The group's undated Rates page has the same packages at $6,100 and $7,100, and adds bring-your-own-boat packages with moorage at $2,970 for 3 nights and $3,960 for 4. In 2025 the resort also sold the guided packages with return flights from Seattle, at $8,159 and $9,099 per person two to a boat.

**Why are the arrival days fixed?**

The resort turns over on Mondays and Fridays. A 3-night stay arrives Friday and leaves Monday, with two half days and two full days on the water; a 4-night stay arrives Monday and leaves Friday with three full days. Check-in is at 3pm and check-out at 11am. In 2025 the days were Thursday and Sunday, so an older sheet or a search result may still say so.

**What are the suites like?**

A private suite for two on the floats, with two twin beds or a king and a private washroom, plush robes, extra-soft towels, rainfall showers and what the resort calls luxury mattresses and deluxe linens. Every package is priced on double occupancy; a single-occupancy upgrade is on request. Children aged 5 to 15 stay at half price. There is a guest lounge with pool and poker tables, a gift shop that also sells tackle, bait and Scotty downrigger parts, and a snack bar open around the clock.

**What does a guided day look like?**

Full days are 10 hours dock to dock and leave at daylight; the half days on the 3-night package are 5 hours. The boats are 31 and 32-foot North Rivers with twin 250 or 300 hp outboards, an onboard washroom and, on the newest ten, Seakeeper gyro stabilisers, running two or three rods for one to six guests. The open Pacific is around the corner: chinook and coho, halibut on the offshore banks, lingcod and rockfish on the structure. Lunch comes aboard and rain gear is provided. The Anglers Academy (boat safety, tides, jigging, trolling, species identification, a certificate and a Helly Hansen vest after 24 hours of fishing) is free on any guided boat.

**What about the tuna?**

Albacore pass offshore in late August and early September, and Newton Cove is 15 minutes from the open ocean, which makes it the group's launching point. A tuna day is sold as a normal salmon and halibut day with a surcharge added only if the run is on: the marine operations manager calls it on the morning from weather, water temperature and clarity, at least two boats go together, and it can mean 25 nautical miles offshore for up to 10 hours. Some saltwater experience is recommended, and four or five-day stays improve the odds.

**How do I get there?**

Drive to Moutcha Bay Resort: Highway 28 west from Campbell River for about 91 km to Gold River, then Head Bay Road towards Tahsis, a gravel stretch with grades of 15 and 18%; the resort sign is on the left about 6 km past the Conuma fish hatchery, roughly two hours from Campbell River. Park there, and the resort brings guided guests to Newton Cove aboard a guide boat. The group also offers an executive transport from the Campbell River, Comox or Nanaimo airports to Moutcha Bay with the boat transfer onward.

Or fly to the dock: Air Nootka from Gold River, Seair from Vancouver, Northwest Seaplanes from Seattle. The 2026 sheet gives a Vancouver and Seattle seaplane schedule of Fridays and Mondays between 27 July and 7 August, priced on request. Boats of 24 feet and over can launch at Gold River; the dock team is on VHF channel 6 and the resort sits at 49° 52.47 N, 126° 56.45 W.

**Can I bring my own boat?**

Yes. The Rates page prices bring-your-own-boat packages with moorage at $2,970 per person for 3 nights and $3,960 for 4, with the same suite, meals and fish processing. The floating resorts' moorage has a freshwater washdown and limited power at each slip; ask reservations about the limits. Fuel, bait and tackle are at the Moutcha Bay marina, and the Gold River boat launch (1-778-909-0036) suits heavier boats.

**What is the food and drink?**

A hot breakfast, an artisan boxed lunch for the boat, fireside appetisers with select beer and wine when the boats come in, a four-course dinner with select beer and wine (Nootka Sound Resort serves three courses), and a snack bar open 24 hours. The chef plans each day's menu around local ingredients, with produce from the group's own Seaview Farms on Vancouver Island. Say so before you arrive for allergies and dietary requirements. Anything beyond the included beer and wine goes on your room account.

**Do I need a fishing licence?**

Yes. Every angler needs a Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence with the salmon conservation stamp, carried on the water, and the resort asks you to buy it online from Fisheries and Oceans Canada before you arrive. The resort fishes Areas 25 and 125; check the regulations for the openings and limits in force.

**Is there wifi, cell signal or power?**

Complimentary wifi in the guest rooms and meeting rooms on a satellite link the resort itself calls spotty. No cell coverage at any of the three resorts; a phone at the front desk is free for guests. The resort is not suitable for pets.

**What should I pack?**

The resort's own list for a guided day is short: your fishing licence, warm layered clothing, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Rain gear is provided to guests of the floating resorts and all the tackle is aboard. Smoking is not allowed in rooms or public spaces, with a $250 cleaning charge if you do.

**Do I tip?**

Gratuities are not in the price. The resort's guidance is $70 to $100 per guest per day on the boat for the guide, and 20% of your stay for the shore staff, which can be added to your room charges and paid by card on departure.
