Basecamp Lodge Canmore is the lodge-style property of the group, at 1002 Bow Valley Trail: hotel rooms rather than apartments, king and double queen rooms with timber feature walls, several with gas fireplaces, a micro suite with a kitchen, and a king suite with a sitting room. The great room is the reason to pick it: a stone fireplace under a CANADA sign, red armchairs, tall windows on the peaks, open around the clock with coffee, so it works as an office, a reading room or the place to wait for the shuttle. A cedar dry sauna is open from eight in the morning to ten at night with change rooms across the hall; cruiser bikes go out from the front desk in spring and summer; and the Everwild spa shuttle is complimentary on request. I photographed and filmed the lodge and built its 360 tour, and the fireplace and the sauna are the frames from the film.

## Questions people ask

**Lodge room or a suite next door?**

The lodge is rooms: a king room for two, double queens for four, a king suite with a sitting area and fireplace, and one micro suite with a kitchen. It suits one or two nights between drives, a solo traveller or a couple who would rather have a great room and a sauna than a kitchen. For a week, or for more than four people, Basecamp Resorts Canmore next door is the same block with kitchens.

**Can I work from the lodge?**

The great room is open 24 hours with tables, armchairs by the fire and coffee on tap, and wifi throughout; it is the reason the lodge lists work retreats among its uses.

**What does a night cost?**

Basecamp does not print a rate card; the price for each room or suite is set by the date and the length of stay in the booking engine on the property page, with a choice of a flexible rate (cancel free until 72 hours before arrival) and a lower non-refundable prepaid rate. Suites with kitchens are priced for the whole unit, not per person, so a family or two couples in a two-bedroom pays one rate.

**Can I bring my dog?**

At the properties with pet-friendly units, yes, up to two pets, and you must say so when you book so a pet-friendly unit is allocated; a pet found in a non-pet unit is charged $100 a night. Pets stay off the furniture and bedding, out of the spa, on a lead on the property, and any extra cleaning is billed.

**Is there parking?**

Basecamp aims to provide one complimentary space per reservation at every property, displayed with a parking pass; it is not guaranteed, and a second vehicle is not promised a space.
